I got an odd survey in the mail yesterday from the DMV. Seems they noticed my liscence plate driving the I-5 North in San Clemente, and wanted me to fill out a survey explaining where I was going, "in order to better serve the community." I looked into the date, and it was the day I was going to LA to dine at Spago's. So I guess I'll send it in, do my civic duty (and apparently, I'm entered to win a prize), but it struck me as rather odd and vaguely disturbing, in a Big Brother sort of way. It reminded me of privacy concerns raised by the red-light cameras; I have to wonder if any spouses opened the survey and were surprised to learn their loved one was not at work after all, but rather off to a romantic dinner at Dana Point.
